Pregnancy in Woman with Multiple Sclerosis
Shin Je-Young

Ahn Suk-Won
Abstract
Pregnancy is a major concern for many patients with multiple sclerosis (MS), who are typically young adults at a 3:1 female predominance. Through pre-conception, pregnancy, and postpartum periods, there is need for disease control management to decrease chances of MS relapses while avoiding potential risks to mother and fetus. However, pregnancy is not always compatible with the available highly effective MS treatments. This review provides the impacts on outcomes and on disease activity, anesthesia, and management of relapse during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Furthermore, available disease-modifying treatment is discussed to support the strategy after conception, as it is related to decreased risk of MS relapses during pregnancy and postpartum periods.
